When you hear the term “aquaponics”, what is the first thing that comes into your mind? According o some researches, aquaponics is a combination of Hydroponics and Aquaculture. It simply means that plants and fish are grown in an integrated system. Aquaponics system makes use of water from the fish tank to circulate through a grow bed where the plants are grown. It is also a food production system that combines conventional aquaculture and raising aquatic animals that include prawns, crayfish, fish and snails.
The nitrifying bacteria are the one that converts fish wastes into plant-available nutrients. Plants make use of these nutrients as their main nutrient supply. Furthermore, the fish also benefits from this type of process, as the water is filtered by the plants, giving the fish water to live in. On the other hand, aquaponics uses less water to produce the same amount of food as conventional agriculture, hydroponics and agriculture.

One of the limiting factors for farmers in various parts of the world is access to fertile soils that are capable of producing quality food. Aquaponics systems does not need any soils and this is one of the top reasons why Aquaponics systems are being used anywhere in the globe.
